Dear Silver Star Resident:

I’m reaching out to share that FortisBC is going through the process of purchasing the operating assets of Stargas Utilities, your current natural gas provider.

FortisBC is a leading utility in the province, currently serving over 1.2 million customers with natural gas, electricity, propane and alternative energy such as Renewable Gases. We have extensive resources and infrastructure in place to deliver safe and reliable energy, and have a customer contact centre available to help our customers.

Should this purchase be approved, we’ll be excited to welcome you as a customer. Until then, we want to give you an opportunity to ask us any questions you have and to share with you everything you need to know as you transition to FortisBC.

On Thursday, February 18, we’ll be hosting two virtual town hall sessions and we encourage you to attend. At the town hall, we will go over the process so far, explain what you’ll need to know as a new FortisBC customer, describe who we are and answer your questions. We’ll also be connecting with local governments, Indigenous communities and other key stakeholders.

Everything you need to know is on our website at https://www.fortisbc.com/in-your-community/working-in-your-neighbourhood/stargas-utilities-asset-purchase, including a link to register for a virtual town hall session.

This is just the first step. After this consultation process, we’ll need to submit an application for a Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity with our regulator, the British Columbia Utilities Commission. We plan to submit this application on February 19, 2021. If that’s approved and we acquire the operating assets of Stargas Utilities, we will begin the process of transitioning customers to FortisBC and will provide more information.

I hope you can attend and look forward to connecting with you!

In the meantime, if you have questions or if you would like to be kept updated on the project, email us at stargas.customers@fortisbc.com.

Sincerely,

Shelley Martens
